This may certify tha t Mr. Phineas W. Cook, aged 20 of Richland, Kalamazoo County, was united in marriage to Mis s Ann Eliza Howland, aged 16 of Ross, county aforesaid and also that Mr. Soloman C. Hall an d wife of Ross were witnesses present at same marriage. Further that said marriage was solemn ized at Ross, Kalamazoo County, Jany 1, 1840 by Calvin Clark, Minister of the Gospel.” pp. 66-67. She was married at the same time as her sister Ann Maria. The town in which they were married was Howlandburg, but it no longer exists. Now Ross.
